hair love

1- i love the oversize bow trend and the hint of sparkle is perfect. if anyone knows where to get a good bow like that let me know!

2- the soft curls in this picture are really pretty, i love contrast with her straight across fringe.

3&11- if i were brave enough i would love to try the pastel hair color trend. maybe not for all over but on the ends would be really pretty.

4,8,9- oh braids. i love braided hair and love finding new ways to braid my hair. my favorite kind of braid at the moment is the fishtail braid. i love the modern twist they give to the traditional ones.

5&10- as you know i am all for the high bun seen here. it's great for those days you sleep in 20 minutes or so past the first alarm {which happens to me more than i would like to admit} and you need to do something quick! i love the added braid up the back, i think it adds something unexpected and fun.

6- curly hair full of natural volume is so pretty. when i shower in the evening i sometimes like to wrap my hair in tiny little buns, sleep with them in, and take them out in the morning to accentuate my natural curl and add a bit of volume.

7&12- if i ever get the courage to cut my hair short again i would choose one of these styles. i had my hair cut the same as number 12 when i got married about 3 years ago and absolutely loved it. i loved the way my hair curled when it was cut like this. so pretty.

if i were a single girl looking for love in new york city, with a larger than life closet, and an impeccable taste for shoes, then this might be what my apartment would look like. just saying.  

lemon on lemon

this is the first cake i ever made for cam. it was for his birthday 5 years ago and i have been making it ever since. i love it because it is so simple to make and it is perfect for spring time. the cake part it is actually just from a box, i use a lemon flavored one then just add a squeeze of lemon and a bit of zest to give it a little kick. the frosting however, is what really tops it off. it is a recipe my mom made us growing up, it had us kids eating frosting by the spoon full hardly leaving any for the actual cake. it is really versatile as well, it can be used on just about any cake by changing the flavors. i like to make yellow cakes and use this frosting recipe by substituting the lemon with coco powder and adding an extra tablespoon or two of milk. i hope you enjoy this simple frosting recipe as much as we do - let me know if you try it out.

-lemon lemon frosting-

{frosting will cover about a 9x9 inch cake}

in a bowl of an electric mixer - or mixing by hand 

combine together:

2 1/2 cups of powder sugar

1/2 stick of butter at room temperature

2 tablespoons of milk

1 lemon freshly squeezed 

the zest of 1 lemon

a pinch of salt 

a drop or two of vanilla

and that's it. after the frosting is completely mixed and the cake is cool, frost. camden likes his cake topped with fresh raspberries and i prefer mine with a light dust of coconut, however the cake is delicious all on its own as well - enjoy!

i love shopping at target for pretty much anything, in fact i currently live in walking distance of one which is not always a good thing. with their clothing it can sometimes be hit or miss however, every once in a while they really surprise me and have the cutest clothes {i love the affordability}. these are a few pieces i have found irresistible recently, a lot of them from the jason wu for target collection, which is sadly currently sold out at our store. i also absolutely love that beatles tee, i lived in it last summer and plan to do the same during this upcoming one.

you know those magazines that you just can't wait to come in the mail? those ones that actually make you want to get the mail and just forget about the huge stack of bills that might, no, DO come with it? well, the dwell studio catalog is just that for me. i always love flipping open a fresh crisp one straight from the mail and looking through it for the first time. i love this almost as much as i love the smell of library books which is saying something. i always get so much decorating inspiration for rooms in mine and others houses and their spring 2012 catalog is no different. i save all my dwell catalogs and have even gone to the extreme of framing a few of the pages and hanging them in my office. oh dwell, what have you done to me?

it has been a bizarre year for weather out here. winter seemed like a prolonged autumn turned into an early spring. we had been having nice sunny mid sixty degree weather then, out of nowhere, it is thirty two degrees and snowing. winter i have news for you, you are late! usually i am all for the snowy weather and actually prefer it over the scalding hot {my husband thinks i am silly for this} but this year i say no more snow. no more cold. no more wind. i am ready for nice spring weather and to feel the warm sun upon my face. however spring means i better get ready to pull out the sunscreen. anyone who knows me knows i am over-eccentric about wearing it. i blame this on over-tanning in my teens and then having a sudden fear of turning into an old, leathery, wrinkly woman. then just like that, i am one of those sunscreen wearing gals. my favorite sunscreen for the body is clinique 'sun' body cream, and for the face i like clinique 'sun' face cream . it doesn't seem to be overly greasy and it is supposed to do the job better than some of the other brands out there. it works great, my face is just as white during the summer as in the middle of the winter. i may no longer be a golden tanned sun beauty but hopefully it will keep my skin looking good when i'm old and wrinkly.

on a serious note

i don't usually like to post things that have such a serious message on this blog being that we probably all have a little to much serious in our daily lives. however i thought this video was worth sharing and hope you all take the time to watch. i would like to thank our dear friends matt and bri for sharing this with us, you are the greatest friends and we love you! thanks everyone and i hope all your weekends were beautiful.

i don't know if it is because my mom ate them when she was pregnant with me or just because i am addicted to anything extra sugary and bad for you, but i am currently obsessed with chocolate dunford donuts. how can one resist the moist richness of the cake topped with the most delicious frosting. this is no healthy obsession either, this is a want one every day as soon as i wake up sort of obsessed. it doesn't help that i don't eat particularly healthy either seeing as i count ovaltine as getting my daily fix of vitamins, so justifying a donut for breakfast or lunch is just not working. curse you chocolaty goodness, you will be the death of me one day!

good times, noodle salad

i must first apologize to jack nicholson, we didn't actually have any noodle salad. however, our weekend was filled with some good times. the weather was extra nice and sunny, we couldn't help getting out for a sunday walk. kramer loves walks so much he sometimes looks like he is smiling, then after we are through he can barley keep his eyes open.

the sunshine was much needed this weekend after a particularly stressful week, it seems to always bring us back to life. speaking of stress relieving, have you guys ever tried aveda comforting tea? it has the perfect combination of peppermint and licorice {not overwhelming licorice flavor, just a subtle hint}, i always feel much more relaxed after drinking a nice hot cup. i had it every night this weekend, it seriously does the trick. how were your weekends?
