pops of color :: fashion trend to try

top// old navy . necklace// cheerfully charmed c/o . pants// madewell . shoes// jeffrey campbell

i love the transition of winter to spring summer clothes (is it really summer? where has the time gone??). clothing gets more colorful and bright, brought back to life with the rest of the world.

i have been surprisingly drawn to the color yellow this year, which is rare seeing as in past years i have sworn the color off. subtle pops of it are so fun, it's so bright and cheerful. i'm especially loving that chunky yellow necklace (seen above). i love finding unique jewelry that makes a statement yet still stays classy and beautiful all at the same time.

in years past, i have found it sometimes troubling to find jewelry that i have really loved that hasn't gotten lost in what i'm wearing. i'm usually drawn to little pendants on simple gold chains and what not, but i think that's why i love this necklace so much, because it is something different from what i would usually choose but still stays true to who i am. it totally livens an outfit up, you know?

my style trend to try are pops of color with unexpected pieces. a little more fun, and a little less serious . . .

:: don't stab your finger with a rusty screwdriver ::
first of all: it hurts. second of all: when you tend to be a clumsy girl like me, it may be wise to stay away from tools all together, especially rusty screwdriver tools. i should have thought that bit of advice through before i ended up with one in my middle finger. the brutal wound of that rusty flat head in my birdie finger wasn't even the worst part, nor was the resulting tetanus shot in my upper right arm, the worst part was what came the next day after all these extremely fun things i have just mentioned.

i have to admit, i may have a slight case of Aichmophobia (try and say that out loud), which is a fear of pointy things (pointy things in the form of a shot), so i was slightly considering taking the risk of dying of that "locked jaw" syndrome instead of getting the tetanus shot. sadly, i'm not kidding. however the nurse at the hospital was very nice and found the smallest needle in the whole place just for me. i felt slightly pathetic, extremely pathetic, but it was totally worth it. it didn't hurt one bit.

what did hurt was what came saturday. my arm felt like it had seriously gained 100 pounds all in one night. like it had stayed up eating dozens of donuts and then spent the rest of the night lifting 100 pound weights trying to burn it all off. at one point i couldn't even lift my hand above my head.

lesson learned: don't use rusty screwdrivers and absolutely don't let them "screw" with your middle finger, after all it is the angriest finger of all.

my mid-mod mood

1//2//3//4//5
i know i can't buy another couch, but i'm totally dying for the rest of it.
have a good weekend everyone, i'll spend mine eye crushing over
hopeful furniture finds. a new home means new designs right? (hint hint camden . . .)

p.s. stay tuned for a guest post tomorrow!

the hunt

i originally had dedicated this post for photos of our dream apartment that i had planned to stumble upon last tonight, well that didn't happen. apparently you can't plan these things.

my hopes were high. the ad said all wood floors, the number one must on my list, and the location was perfect, beyond perfect. as we arrived, i felt a soft flutter of butterflies in my stomach telling me we had found our soon to be (4th) home. as we walked up the street to take a peek inside my hopes suddenly started to become more distant. the sweet apartments that longingly called my name from a distance, looked slightly tired and sad close up. as we walked into the hallways the once imagined coziness turned into dirty carpets and the smell of quiet death. suddenly panicking, i asked a question to calm my nerves, "so there is hardwood throughout correct?" the nice lady giving us our tour replied "yes the hardwood like floors runs throughout the apartment, although i won't be able to show you one with the hardwood like floors today". my heart stopped. "the hardwood like?" i asked. apparently they meant vinyl that had the appearance of hardwood.

once in the apartment we knew it was all wrong. the lighting was terrible, the kitchen was beyond tiny, and the the layout was sad. it felt like an office building, not like a home. it was so disappointing thinking this would be the place we could call home and come to realize it was a sad excuse for a house. needless to say we left in a hurry.

discouraged and hungry we decided to cheer ourselves up with our favorite little restaurant sitting in our hopefully soon to be new neighborhood. oversized sandwiches, delicious pastries, it's hard not to be giddy over it all.

we have no idea where to look next, but we are hopeful somewhere in the heart of town our little apartment, perfect for our family of three is waiting for us to find it. let the hunt begin (again).

this is seriously one of my favorite stores.

:: five easy steps to cure those lousy blues ::
-but first a precautionary note-
// make sure you follow step by step in order, without leaving anything out \\
(except for maybe the part about the purple hair)

01. wake up and make yourself a cup of tea. make sure to add a bit of sugar and cream.
02. get back into bed and put on a classic audrey hepburn movie, i chose sabrina.
03. go get your hair done and change it up a bit, try something different, something new, something fun! if you're me, you'll let them talk you into a bit of purple at the ends because you feel you need a change, something only slightly drastic.
04. on the way home, pick up some chick-fil-a waffle fries with their signature dipping sauce and absolutely do not forget to get a banana pudding milkshake for dessert.
05. go home, get back into pj's and watch sherlock holmes with your adorable family.

voilà you are cured.

about new beginnings

he has done it. camden has done only what he does best, working extremely hard at work, until they just couldn't help but promote him any longer.

it was tuesday mid afternoon, i was a bit groggy from lack of sleep and constant car rides when i got a phone call from camden. i was a bit preoccupied to hear the slight hint of excitement in his voice. "i did it!" he said, "i got it." it took me a minute to realize what he was trying to tell me, and to comprehend what he was talking about, until suddenly my brain caught up with his words and i understood just what he was saying. "you mean the job?" "you got the job?" "yes i did." he said. there was then a lot of excitement that broke out, while i might ad, i was driving kids in the car who were looking at me like, 'great she has officially lost her marbles'. it was a sight to see i tell you. conversation began about details, and scheduling and of course a few sarcastic ad-ins (cause' what's a conversation without a bit of sarcasm, right?)

one of the things i admire about camden is the dedication and hard work he devotes to anything he sets out to accomplish. i have never seen him do a job putting forth any less effort than 110% even if he isn't particularly excited about what he is doing, it doesn't seem to matter. i wish i could be more like that.

camden has been offered a manager position in women's shoes, a category he knows a lot about. this is quite surprising to most people especially considering he knew nothing about fashion anything when we first started dating.

i remember the first valentine's date camden and i shared together. it was five years ago now and we had dinner reservations at a nicer restaurant. when he showed up to pick me up he was dressed in rugged jeans, hiking shoes, and an oversized dress shirt. it's funny to think now camden is the one giving me fashion advice.

everywhere we go he is pointing out different women's shoes and what brand they are. half the time i have no idea what the brand even is. sometimes i just play along, 'oh yeah, i love those shoes. 'i have been wanting some for quite some time'. he is quite knowledgeable in that subject, quite knowledgeable indeed. i guess it would make sense since he has spent the last three years selling all kinds of ladies just that.

so here is to camden and new beginnings. we are so proud of you, you will be amazing as always.

about red lipstick and laundry

in case you were wondering, they don't mix.

yesterday mr. charlesworth and i were having a mighty good time. we had gone to noodles and company and even gotten an extra ginormous rice-crispy treat to share. when we came home mr. charlesworth went to get the clothes out of the dryer, he is very on top of these things you know, when all of the sudden he moaned "beaaaaar!"

my first thought was that perhaps i had left my shoes in the middle of the floor and mr. charlesworth had tripped right over them.

this is a major problem in our house, well through mr. charlesworth's eyes anyway. i seem to take off my shoes and leave them right where i was standing, almost as though i walked right out of them. there they sit until the next time i'm looking for those shoes, or until company is coming and i run franticly throughout the house picking up pair after pair and throwing them into our closet. well now, mr. charlesworth doesn't much like to have to look were he is walking and quite possibly will trip over my shoes at least once a day or so. this drives him silly.

my second thought was perhaps i had left on a light, you know, kind of forgotten to turn it off.

this is another major problem in our home, at least, once again through mr. charlesworth's eyes. you see, i like to see where i am going and i often forget to switch the lights off after i leave the room. since mr. charlesworth wants to single handedly save the planet, or at least our energy bill, one could see how this could drive him absolutely mad.

sadly however, neither of these things were the reason for his moan of my name (in this house my name is bear, not sara, so much so that if i hear him call me sara it kind of freaks me out). how i would have loved one of these things to have been the reason, but no, what happened in that sad little laundry room was much, much, much worse. out of the laundry room came mr. charlesworth with a poor excuse of a lipstick bottle that had died and melted in the dryer leaving its red blood all over our clothes, mr. charlesworth's clothes.

by the look on his face i thought this must be it, how i'm going to die i mean, an angry husband gone mad with red lipstick died clothes, a true case of the mean reds. all i could muster out was a pathetic little sorry, like sorry could un-dye his favorite work shirts, or take away the fact that they were probably ruined. it sounded small and dumb coming out of my mouth, but it was all i could think to say. "sorry".

well because mr. charlesworth is actually quite gracious, he has sparred my life this time, but warned me next time i may not be so lucky:) in all actuality he remained pretty calm about the incident and with a little dry cleaning magic the clothes may survive the attempted mass murder. if only the same could be said about the lipstick. rest in peace covergirl natureluxe red lip balm, you will be missed.

t.o.t, or more like, --> dirty clothes and no sense

hat: old navy . sweater: anthropologie . vest: old navy . shirt: target . shorts: thrifted . shoes: dolce vita . watch: dkny

let's just say the title pretty much sums it up. we are all finally home, enjoying all it has to offer (the bed, the bed, and the bed), and all it doesn't, like any clean clothes to speak of, and the food or the lack thereof.

also, my slow moving brain that has shrunk to the size of a walnut at this point, forgot to charge the camera. good one. so those slightly noisy pictures you see above were taken by my handy little iphone. i do have to admit, for an iphone, they aren't too shabby. still not the quality of our camera.

yes friends, that is what i had to work with this week for this oh so lovely tuesday post, all the clean clothes left in my closet and an iphone camera. still, i could think of worse things.

as a side note :: i am extremely excited to catch up on my shows especially breaking point. too excited actually, pathetically excited.

also, i'm not sure i have ever been so ecstatic to go to bed. it has never felt so soft, cozy and luxurious. it has never really felt anything more than a bed but tonight it feels like clouds sent from heaven, like cotton balls sewn together to make one big ball of lovely fluff, like our bed. this was a dangerous place to plop myself down and start to write, but my body had no choice in the matter. it pulled me in like a magnet attracts its better half and hasn't let go (for over an hour now). yes, i think i missed you most of all.

captured in a weekend

during the summer, my job changes from personal assistant to nanny with all of the kids out of school. for the past three years now, i have kicked off the summer craziness with a five day nanny blowout. parents have gone out of town and i stay about five days with these silly kids.

we have done everything from swimming to tennis lessons, ice cream nights out to room cleaning, waffle night to the hunger games, piano to playing ghost in the graveyard, hair cuts to bath night.

i knew while being so busy it was going to be a bit hard putting this post together by myself while documenting our weekend, so i called in the kids help sunday and had them help me capture our day in pictures. each one of them got a time and, with no rules, they were able to capture whatever their hearts desired (with a little help from me and camden when the day got too fun to step away).

enjoy our crazy weekend in this extremely long list of photos. let me be the first to congratulate you if you make it to the end.
