this smoothie is like comfort in a drink, and also my first smoothie i’ve ever made with granola in it. i’m kind of wishing i had one to sip on right now actually … it would seriously hit the spot.
banana smoothie
this recipe was originally created by martha stewart then modified into this smoothie.

you will need (served about 2-3):
1/2 cup – plain low-fat yogurt
1/2 cup – almond coconut milk
1 banana cut into thirds
1/4 cup – granola
2 teaspoons – honey
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup – ice

combine together in a blender until smooth and enjoy.

this smoothie is currently one of my favorites. it’s by martha stewart and actually, in the beginning, i was a bit hesitant to try it. i like my drinks sweet and fresh and the idea of avocado in a smoothie was a bit intimidating but also kind of intriguing. honestly, it doesn’t taste anything like i thought it would. it is seriously amazing and the orange juice just goes perfectly with the other flavors. try it … you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

lately, my favorite thing to do in the morning is to make a fabulous drink that is perfect for those first early hours of the day. i’ve been trying a bunch of different combinations over the past few weeks, some better than others, and i thought i would share with you a few of my favorites over the next little bit. the first one is a combination of peaches and pineapples that i think is just delicious.
the mornings
you will need (serves two):

1 cup of pineapple chunks
1 cup of frozen peaches
1/2 cup of greek yogurt (i used an orange honey flavored one)
1/2 of a banana sliced
1/2 cup of pineapple coconut juice
1/2 cup of ice

mix all the ingredients in a blender until smooth and enjoy!

you are looking at all the things i’ve been craving lately, minus: donuts, tomato juice, spaghetti, and pickles, but realistically, i had to narrow down some (also, we had donuts after). camden was so sweet yesterday to brave the snow that had been falling all night, to pick up all the things i wanted for our brunch from the grocery store. we had: hard boiled eggs, tomatoes sprinkled with salt and pepper, thinly sliced avocado, grapes with dubliner cheese, clementines, and roasted asparagus with a reduced balsamic vinegar dressing on top.

so, i spent the entire day saturday watching the food network … and yes, it was one of those days. but i’m so glad i did because i learned how to make the very, very, very best french toast both camden and i have ever eaten. i mean the very very best. it is a recipe courtesy of bobby flay … i’ve never made one of his recipes but after trying this i’m absolutely sold. i did have to make a few changes i’m not sure bobby would have approved of if he knew, but ultimately, in the end, i would make it exactly the same again … and will … probably tomorrow …

you can see the recipe here … pretty much all you need to know is that if you can’t find fresh peaches this time of year, frozen peaches work just marvelously and if, like me, you can’t find brioche at your local super market, regular french bread sliced thin then dipped into the batter (not soaked) is a delicious substitute. sorry bobby, but we can’t all have the very best ingredients always at our fingertips …
