camden likes to make fun of my newest obsession, dipping lemons into sugar and drinking the juice. my stomach is not pleased with this but my mouth loves it. as for decorating, i have been drawn to all things citrus as well. there is something so fresh and happy about this color palette it almost make me hungry. the grapefruit color would have to be my current favorite but i’m dying over that yellow rocker. if i had extra money and space laying around it would already be nestled in our home ready for rocking.

Miscellaneous

Hi friends! My name is Elise and I blog here

A big thanks to Sara for letting me hang out at Chalk White Arrow today. It’s pretty cozy over here!

One of my favorite things about summer is open-toed shoes of all varieties. Heels, sandals, flip-flops, gladiators, wedges.. okay, so maybe most of those fall into the “sandal” category. I just love freshly painted toe nails, peeking out of a cute pair of shoes. I love my toms shoes but this pair had so many holes, they were just too trashy to wear. I saw a couple of pictures on pinterest that turned them into sandals. This was my take on some of those pictures. Start with an old pair of beloved toms. This is my first pair:
Grab some scissors and start by cutting the front of the shoe, where your toes would be. Start with little cuts, because of course, you can always cut again..but if you cut too much. Wah, Wah. I cut a diagonal about 1/2 in. from the seam. Try them on and cut more if you like.
Then cut two semi circles, one on either side of the shoe, you will probably have to even them out a bit, but it’s okay if they aren’t perfect.
Next cut two semi circles, one on either side of the shoe, closer to your heel right around the arch of your foot. Trim up any loose strings or uneven cuts.
Lastly I sewed on a little piece of fabric that I had painted on early to the top of the shoe. I had painted “true to… my love” on the sides that were now cut out. It was really easy to sew!
Send me a picture of your new sandals to elisemdean{at}gmail{dot}com. I’d love to see how yours turn out!

Miscellaneous

five things you may not have known about me include:

1- i have a good sized burn that measures about the size of the round of a large spoon on my right arm. i actually forget about it until someone will ask me what it is from. i blame it on my like love of hair that took its toll at a young age. when i was about a year old, i crawled up onto the toilet and pulled my mothers curling iron off the vanity and onto my arm. i guess it should have been a reminder that i shouldn’t care so much about my hair, too bad i went to paul mitchell the school.
2- if you asked me what i wanted to be when i grew up between the ages of about three and sixteen, i would have told you i wanted would be a ballerina. that’s right, i was a major tutu freak growing up and would have to say it is probably my biggest regret in life not continuing to pursue it. i quit my five day a week dance class at the age of sixteen because of injuries and other distractions. i sometimes still wish i had chosen the path of dance but i’m so happy with my life now and glad to be where i am.
3- did you know i am short? that is right, i am the 5 foot 2 kind of short and i’m married to a constant reminder of that fact. camden stands a whole foot taller than me. we make a fun couple don’t we? and of course my favorite shoes… are flats. figures.
4- my nickname is bear. it may not be to original because it is the obvious rhyming word with with sar. i accrued this name growing up i was given this name as soon as i was born because, well if you would have seen me you would have called me bear too. apart from work, i hear this name more times a day than my own.
5- my favorite song is just breathe by pearl jam and you can listen to it below. every time i’m going through a rough patch it always seems to be playing on the radio. i don’t have much reasoning of why i love this song. . i just do.
there you have it! a whole five things you didn’t know about me. Now you do.
happy tuesday everyone!

Miscellaneous

what a busy weekend we had. friday night cam and i got to have a little date night with just the two of us. it seems we get so busy we forget to just sit down and spend some time together. we went out to rubios to eat some fish tacos (cam gets his with steak because he hates fish) and came home to walk kramer. poor kramer hadn’t had a walk the whole week and was so excited to get out and run around and bark at other dogs. cam and i love to walk kramer at night. it is when we have our best talks and forget our stresses. on the way home we stopped off at red box which camden loves because “can you believe it? movies are only a dollar?” to rent the rum diaries and then spent the rest of the evening at home. it was so nice to just have these two guys all to myself all night and not have to worry about being somewhere or getting something done.
also, this weekend we went to the famous burger bar. it’s a family tradition that we do with my mom and sisters twice a year {seeing as it is about a 45 minute drive to a little ho dunk town next to an air force base}. we actually found out about it because it was on an episode of diners, drive-ins and dives which of course we always watch at the most inopportune times when most restaurants are closed. so now twice a year we make the long drive to get those yummy burgers, fries, and root beer freezes then spend about and hour eating them in the car while we talk and giggle and get ever so silly. we always seem to say the funniest things on the way down, i like to blame it on the fact that we are all starving and letting our stomachs take over our brains, but it is more likely the fact that no matter where i go with these cute girls i can’t help saying something outrageous that will make everyone laugh and we will talk about probably forever. our favorite quote of the day was said by you guessed it, the one and only sara, who said something like “i’m good at writing and camden, well he is good at editing and spelling…he just has to make sure the words i have written are real words!” thank you ladies and gentleman, one more silly thing to add to the long book of sadly unforgettable sara quotes. the saddest part of that statement is although it sounds like a pretty funny thing to say it is 100% true.
other things we did this weekend include bathing our newly brown dog and turning him back into kramer, a bit of much needed spring cleaning around our home, making another cake with the left over ingredients, doing a bit of grocery shopping, shopping, and a little time of just plain laziness. hope all your weekends were good and let me know what you did this weekend.

hair love

Miscellaneous

1– i love the oversize bow trend and the hint of sparkle is perfect. if anyone knows where to get a good bow like that let me know!

2– the soft curls in this picture are really pretty, i love contrast with her straight across fringe.

3&11– if i were brave enough i would love to try the pastel hair color trend. maybe not for all over but on the ends would be really pretty.

4,8,9– oh braids. i love braided hair and love finding new ways to braid my hair. my favorite kind of braid at the moment is the fishtail braid. i love the modern twist they give to the traditional ones.

5&10– as you know i am all for the high bun seen here. it’s great for those days you sleep in 20 minutes or so past the first alarm {which happens to me more than i would like to admit} and you need to do something quick! i love the added braid up the back, i think it adds something unexpected and fun.

6- curly hair full of natural volume is so pretty. when i shower in the evening i sometimes like to wrap my hair in tiny little buns, sleep with them in, and take them out in the morning to accentuate my natural curl and add a bit of volume.

7&12– if i ever get the courage to cut my hair short again i would choose one of these styles. i had my hair cut the same as number 12 when i got married about 3 years ago and absolutely loved it. i loved the way my hair curled when it was cut like this. so pretty.
