the one car thing has been working out pretty well until yesterday. yes yesterday, day of so many things to do requiring us to be at different places at different times. we had sort of gotten into a routine until yesterday with this one car thing. i would drive to work in the mornings (because i leave much earlier and work too far away to walk) and camden would then walk to his work a few hours later. in the evening, when camden was ready to come home, i would drive over and pick him up. on the days camden had work off and i didn’t, he would come to work with me in the morning, then take the car on errands during the day. then, when i was finished, he would come back to pick me up. on the days camden had work and i didn’t, i would drive camden to work in the morning and pick him up in the evening. it was a system, it was working and working well. until yesterday camden had never had a wednesday off. the thing that made this so difficult was that wednesday is the one day a week i don’t go into work until noon which completely interfered with camden’s errands and appointment times. after appointment rearranging and such we were able to plan out a day that would “work” for the both of us. i ran camden’s errands with him in the morning then went to his doctor’s appointment too. after that, camden dropped and picked me up from work and we ran my errands until ending back at home in the evening. i think yesterday was the first day we both wished we had two cars. we were slightly grumpy last night from running around all day and figuring out how to fit everything in. sometimes trying to simplify can seem the complete opposite of simple . . . at least yesterday it did.

Our Home

having a few floating shelves is a great way to store kitchen items without taking up a lot of room like having extra large cupboards would do in a tiny kitchen. when you only have a few small cupboards like we do, sometimes having some dishes on floating shelves is a must. i put our shelves on our chalkboard wall so the color of the dishes would pop off the black wall. i love the idea that something with purpose can also give a sense of decor at the same time. to do this i put our favorite dishes with a few decorative items on the white shelves so they are pleasant to look at while still having storage purposes as well. i bought our floating shelves from ikea for about $30. the dishes are from anthropologie and the wooden block set of london is from muji.

sunday morning, after taking kramer to be groomed, we stopped by banbury cross on our way home for some donuts to snack on before our really big football game get-together later that evening (because we needed something healthy to tide us over … right???).  camden ate a maple frosted donut, which just happens to be his favorite and i had a glazed one, which just happens to be one of mine. it was a short but sweet weekend brunch that we quickly devoured in order to have time to tidy up the house and pick up kramer before our guests would be arriving. later that afternoon, along with our other party food, we decided to share our leftover dozen donuts amongst our friends, wherein camden partook of his fourth donut of the day… this is to say our so called weekend brunch (or mid-morning dessert) became part of our lunch and dinner as well. – but then again, a really big football game party wouldn’t be complete without a dozen donuts and friends to share them with. – and let’s not talk about the effect a late night donut has on one’s dreams . . . hope all your weekends were fabulous!

it has been snowing for four straight days. i mean i’ll take the snow over toxic air any day, but four days of constant snow is a bit much in my opinion; plus no sunshine can really do a number on a person, turn them into some kind of grump. this month feels as though it has lasted a year and i’m not really sad to see it go. poor january, it seems you just can’t catch a break. cam and i are so ready to get out of the house and just do something … anything! we have bummed at home way too many days now and need to break free from the confines of these overbearing four walls. we have yet to see much of the sun today, but my hopes are high and fingers crossed!
