the battle

winter

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
every year as soon as halloween passes and the calendar flips to that first day of november, a little battle within begins, the battle of when to start decking those halls. if my heart had it her way, a lit christmas tree would already be strung in white, snug in our house as a charlie brown christmas played loudly on repeat, all the while peppermint brownies would be baking in the oven, filling the house with the perfect christmas scent. however, my head tells my heart to shut up for a bit because it’s only about three weeks to soon. usually about ten days before thanksgiving my head starts slowly giving in and letting a bit of christmas sneak in until it admits full defeat as they both just can’t wait any longer. i would say by about november 20th, the christmas holiday has almost taken over our home. well, as tradition would have it, today i couldn’t help but dream about where our tree would fit in our new house and i didn’t stop myself from purchasing my favorite winter candle at target and lighting it as i do every year just about now, for the very first time. a strike for the head and a win for the heart. to ease the strain just a bit, i made a little winter wish list for this up coming snowy season, a few beautiful things for the winter holiday. . . how soon do you start celebrating the holiday season?

yesterday we set out for the long awaited, much anticipated, journey to a pumpkin patch. at our old house on the complete opposite side of town, i would have known exactly where to go, but being that we moved just a month ago (so crazy it’s been a month!) i had no clue where to even start. we set out at the worst time of day, that time when everyone seems to get just a little on edge as they make that treacherous trek through stop and go traffic home. as habit would have it, our first stop was a complete bust. actually, we didn’t even stop because as we approached the supposed pumpkin garden, it was clear no pumpkin anything had ever existed there, none the less a garden. our second stop looked a lot more promising, however, as we searched for where those glorious soon to be jack-o’lanterns should be, we came upon a sign letting us know all the jack-o’lanterns had already found homes with people that didn’t procrastinate buying them in the first place. at this point i was completely over the whole pumpkin patch thing, who needed them anyway. long story short, about two hours and three grocery stores later, we finally made it back with three pumpkins in hand and one sorely defeated attitude. once home i turned to camden with that sullen face i do so well just ready to fall apart. it was then he gave me that reality check i find myself needing more than i know i should. how lucky was i that the biggest problem of my day was that my pumpkin patch tradition hadn’t gone exactly as planned. i wasn’t searching for shelter or starving from hunger. i was perfectly healthy with a warm house welcoming me home and a happy healthy family resting inside. this put my pumpkin problem to some serious shame. it’s times like these i’m glad to have someone to pull me back down and remind me just how lucky i truly am.

this little collaboration on the wall took me way to many moments to figure out, but i’m really liking how it did ~ lion print by oana befort

for a moment and only a moment we had our first snow.

insert something sappy about snow here because i’m sure whatever you’re thinking won’t be nearly as cheesy as the moment that goes with this photo.

my halloween costume i was going to wear to a halloween party. this is the moment i realized i would not be going thanks to one of those headaches that just won’t go away. kramer and i snuggled in the bed instead while watching an old audrey hepburn movie. not nearly as exciting but you can never go wrong with audrey. p.s. five gold stars to who ever can guess who i was trying to be. .

a chalkboard wall

i have been painting all sorts of chalkboard walls over here lately. it was totally on a whim too. one of those, “i think that wall would look better as a chalkboard”, because i’m sure you have those all the time. i did it all by myself, aren’t you proud? camden was but mostly because i didn’t have to make him help, due to the fact that he was at work and all. anyway, i am really loving the contrast between the black of the board and the crisp white of the wall to the side. it really makes a statement doesn’t it? plus i figure we’ll stop forgetting groceries on account that it makes a killer “what i need at the store” wall.
