we are now home from new york and i already miss it. the food, the walking, the energy, our tour guide (camden). i miss the flower shops, the shopping, the halal carts, the bakeries, the pizza, i miss it all. we took 1079 pictures while we were there and in comparison this is just a few. (this probably gave us away as total tourists, but it was totally worth it) i’m already dreaming of when we can go back.DSC_0776

thought on . . . thursday? – and a missing iPhone in new york city

August 23, 2012

Miscellaneous

it was our fourth day in new york and kate (my sister), camden and i were on our way to see the late show with david letterman. it seemed wherever we went, our hands and shoulders were completely full of everything you could think of.

as we made our way up broadway, we were stopped by a girl working with the show who just happened to ask us if we wanted to see david letterman and that she could get us guaranteed tickets; no stand by lines needed. the only catch was we had to answer two questions correct in order to go. it’s times like these that i find myself grateful for camden’s ability to store in his head, little useless minute details, that sometimes, surprisingly, end up being worth some sort of use.
the thing about late shows, is that you must be at least eighteen years of age in order to attend a live audience recording, which we all were. – but you may see why the next question she would ask us, was is if she could see our drivers licenses – and this my friends, is where it started to go wrong. as kate reached into her purse, she came to the sudden realization that she had forgotten to return her license to her wallet after the airport. because we had decided to attend david letterman spur of the moment, she had not thought to check her waller for her i.d.
with now only two tickets in hand, the three of us continued to head up broadway, only now with kate trying to figure out how to meet up with my mom and other sister so she did not have walk alone, the streets of new york city.
after checking in at david letterman, finding out what time we would have to return, we called kate to meet up and wait until the rest of the family could meet up with her. (pay attention, because this next part is important) i specifically remember leaving the theater with my iphone, because when exiting the doors i felt my phone vibrate as my dad had just texted me. as i looked at my phone, i decided i would read it later as i was more concerned at that particular moment, with meeting up with kate. i spotted her across the street sitting on a little stone bench waiting to hear from us. we crossed the street to meet her and decided to sit down on the bench to rest our feet while we make a plan. after a few minutes of discussing how we would spend the next hour while waiting for the show to begin, we decided we would go into to starbucks, just kitty corner to the little bench.
the thing we learned very quickly about new york is that not only is there a starbucks on every corner, but that most of them have restrooms open to the public. just a bit of information that came in a lot of handy.
we walked in, ordered a snack and not three minutes after sitting down, i quickly realized i no longer had my phone. as i scurried through my bags and pockets and anything i could think of, i suddenly remembered i had probably sat it down on the bench we had been previously sitting on. we ran out to check and, you guessed it, of course it was gone, brand new cell phone cover case and all (poor new free people cover, i will miss you). it became quickly apparent that somebody had seen it laying there in the few minutes i had left in alone, and taken it. we called it and made it beep, and tried to look up its location only to find whoever took it had decided to turn it off. it was gone, forever.
i was surprisingly sad about having lost it, not because i couldn’t get a new one, which i thankfully did that evening, or because it was just a full out pain in the you know what. – but because i generally felt sad i couldn’t have that exact phone. it had been with me without fail, even might i add, after dropping it into a hot pool of water. even then it didn’t skip a beat. it had become a part of me, which i know is not entirely a good thing. we also had to call verizon to have them turn it into nothing more than a paperweight, mostly just because camden wanted revenge.
oh dear poor mr. iphone, i will miss you. may you rest in peace.

Miscellaneous

these little feet will be traveling to faraway places very soon. camden, my two sisters, my mom, and i will be making our way over to new york city for a much needed vacation. needless to say, i’m beyond excited, over the moon excited, past the moon and back excited! even better, i will get to celebrate my birthday there, and seriously . . what more could i ask for? the only thing that could possibly make it better would be if kramer could come along with us, “kramer takes new york city”. sadly, he has to stay home while we travel without him. up until a few hours ago i thought we were going to have to leave him at a doggy hotel, which i was completely stressing out about due to the fact that kramer has never stayed without people he is familiar with, or without his home with all his things, bed, toys, and so on. just today however, some family graciously offered to stay and doggy sit this little guy, which totally lifted a whole lot of worry off my shoulders. – on a side note, i’m starting to get the feeling i will be a terribly worrisome mother if just leaving our dog has caused me this much grief. – if there is anything we shouldn’t miss while we are in the city (killer shopping, restaurants, etc.) please let me know. i’m totally enjoying hearing about all the fun unique places we shouldn’t miss out on . .
 – i will try and get the post up tomorrow on where i got all the items seen
in the newly redesigned room and hopefully will answer all your questions.
