Miscellaneous

starting tomorrow i will begin my nine day venture of redesigning miss abigail’s room. i thought i would start off this design week special with the before photos so you all know just where we started. as far as the design i’m going for an overall cleaner and crisper feeling while still keeping true to abbeys tastes and styles. she has picked a robins egg blue-green and a bright red orange for the new room’s color scheme, then we’ll balance it out with some neutrals and bright whites as well. of course there will be a few surprises that abbey doesn’t know about. on the list for tomorrow are new wood floors (because what little girl wouldn’t want hardwood in her bedroom?) and hopefully the first coat of paint. the room will be revealed to abbey next saturday the 11th and i can hardly wait to see her reaction. wish me luck!

the secret life of my lashes

Miscellaneous

i have been receiving a lot of emails and questions lately about my eyelash secret, who knew lashes could keep secrets? well what my lashes haven’t been telling you is that they aren’t all real, they are a bunch of fakes. i actually have eyelash extensions. it sort of all happened on a fluke really, when about seven or eight months ago i was offered to try them for half off. i was kind of scared that they would turn out really freaky looking or obviously fake, however i was pleasantly surprised with the outcome and my lashes were pleased as well. so pleased in fact, i have kept them up ever since and because we are being completely honest here (my lashes and i), they have to admit they’re sort of addicted to them. it’s hard to imagine them without the extra length. i have been fortunate enough to find a place that fills them relatively cheap and does a great job at it too. it’s also really nice to not have to worry about mascara or eyeliner. i would say the only downside is you do have to take really good care of them to keep them looking good which means mascara and eyeliner are a no no along with oily face washes or eye creams. i have thought about trying other solutions such as lilash or just the good old glue-ons but i’m sort of impatient, which camden just looooves about me, and i got a bit tired of the false stick-on lashes after so many ballet performances of having to wear them. this is just what i have found that works for me. what works for you?

Miscellaneous

top: anthropologie . pants: uo . shoes: halogen .  ring: unexpected expectancy c/o . watch: dkny . bracelet: j.crew
i have been a little obsessed with rings lately. i just recently told camden my perfect romantic day would include: breakfast in the city, making a cozy fort in our living room, and picking out a vintage ring. the next morning i found a sticky note on his bedside table reading: romantic date – fort – breakfast – vintage rings. it was really sweet.
the ring above from ue jewelry is one of my very favorites. i love the funky vintage vibe it has without being outrageously expensive. i seriously never take it off. camden totally thinks he is off the hook too.
a little off subject, i totally have forgotten just how quirky my hair line is. i have had my forehead covered for so many years, i was slightly surprised to see its original curves. it has the strangest shape but embrace it i must as i’m trying to grow out this thick fringe of mine. grow hair . . grow!

Miscellaneous

a miracle happened this week. for the first time since i can remember, not including holidays or funerals, camden had the entire weekend off from work. because it seems like this never happens, our minds got thinking of all the things we could possibly do. besides building a fort in the living room and swimming in a hot spring, we actually accomplished most of the things on our list.
saturday morning we ventured downtown to search for a few items for a room i’m re-doing next week. by the way, let me apologize now for how much you will be hearing and seeing about this project. back to the point, one of the stops we made was to one of my favorite secondhand shops: elemente. this is where we found our coffee table and our pre-wore foot stool that i’m still in love with. they didn’t disappoint either. although i didn’t find anything i needed for the room, i found so many things i wanted to take home and if i had the space i would have.
the store is full of dark corners, funky little leather chairs, bad artwork and has the most wonderful overly eccentric sales lady i have ever met. she has big dramatic eyes, sky high cheekbones, and wiry brown curls bouncing off her head in every which direction. one of those women whose features are so strong makeup would almost overwhelm their face. there is something about this type of person that i find myself admiring to some point. words just seem to come freely to her mouth and although she may seem a slight bit cooky, she doesn’t seem to care at all. i like to think we are all a bit cooky but what i admire most is she isn’t afraid to let people see that, to be who she is, she seems so free. i do love this little store . . big love.
after we left the shop we headed over to a delicious little bakery on 3rd and 3rd for a little breakfast. although it was more like lunch than breakfast as it was closer to one in the afternoon than the traditional breakfast time. starved as we were we went for breakfast anyway. i had the yummiest most decadent not to mention unhealthy little treat. it was some sort thick densely whipped cream with fresh strawberries topped with flaky almond pastries that melted in your mouth, the whole thing melted in your mouth. now i’m wishing camden could have every saturday off, even if just for the strawberry ring pastry. . .
