The Little Things

Miscellaneous

as a side note: i have lucky clothing and clothing i will no longer wear because i’m sure it’s unlucky. i’m a bit superstitious i guess.
on my way to work this morning i was in a rush as usual (6:30 a.m. will forever be my nemesis). i zoomed through a yellow light (almost red light) and not five seconds later i saw flashing lights in my rear view mirror. great i thought, what would mr. charlesworth have to say about this? not good things I assure you.
it has been almost three years since my last ticket and i was inches away from having my monthly car insurance lowered. i needed another ticket like i need another hole in the head, just to clear up any confusion i didn’t need one of those either. i didn’t have any cool ticket stories, they were all for really mundane things like five miles over the speed limit, running a stop sign on an abandoned street in the middle of the night, that kind of stuff.
i pulled over to the side of the road, dug through my purse for a license, and rolled down my window to await my unforeseen fate. the policeman, as policeman usually do, asked “do you know why i pulled you over today?” “um… no?” i said. i mean i was pretty sure why, but isn’t there some sort of don’t admit your guilt rule that applies to these situations? he continued to tell me that the light was red when i reached the intersection and asked if i had seen that the light was red. i replied that i thought the light was yellow which was the truth as the light probably turned red when i was under it and out of sight. he then asked the question again “you thought it was yellow?”. “yes” i thought that was what i just said anyway, “i thought it was yellow.”
i could see where this was going, many more unnecessary questions until i wind up with a ticket and arriving late for work. it was my own fault but in the moment you just can’t help but be bothered. as he was lecturing me, i’m pretty sure he thought i was very young as he kept mentioning my parents, i suddenly noticed a change in his voice and the direction of his lecture started to shift, like he suddenly decided to let me go and ride free. i was shocked, this never happened to me. i have tried every trick in the book apart from bursting into complete hysterics to try and avoid receiving a ticket. – and then that was it. he told me to have a nice day and sent me on my way. i couldn’t believe i was leaving empty handed, ticketless and free to go. i suddenly had an overwhelming sensation of gratitude and love for that man, this sounds a bit dramatic but i was suddenly filled with a warm fuzzy filling. besides the fact that i had avoided the hassles of all a ticket includes, i had managed to be pulled over and not receive that disliked little piece of paper. it was a first, and i was more than happy to experience this first. for some reason this cop had decided to let me off the hook, what on earth made him change his mind i don’t know, but whatever the reason, i was extremely grateful.
i think sometimes i forget the little things in life i have to be grateful for and sometimes i may not even know i have something to be thankful about until after situations like this. it’s little things like this in my day to day life that are humbling for me and i’m thankful for them.

hat: j.crew . shirt anthropologie . vest: old navy . pants: target . boots: paisley pomegranate
it was rainy all weekend here, which besides making my hair full-out unmanageable, turns out also makes me really really lazy as well. camden had to work both weekend days which we always hate. saturday i didn’t even leave the house, kramer and i just listened to the rain and thunder while we ate pizza and caught up on some reading, and watched way, way, to much t.v.
one would think that all this rest saturday would have put me in tip top shape sunday but oddly enough i woke up with what felt like a sprained ankle (maybe not sprained buy badly bruised or tweaked or pinched?). i’m not even quite sure how this can happen, spending a whole day on my butt then waking up the next not being able to walk. however something still has remained to be done and we have come up with a few theories here. some overly whacky theories indeed but theories all the same.
theory number one: all my laziness saturday; a.k.a. sitting, lounging, reading, t.v. watching, in return made my sleep cycles out of whack which then led to me sleep walking, resulting in a busted ankle and voilà, i have an unexplained injury awaiting the next day. this sounds bizarre but is not 100% impossible. let the record show i have sleepwalked a few times before, few being the key word, but none the less, i have done it. camden is an extremely heavy sleeper and has been known to say crazy things in his sleep which could explain for him not waking up during the incident. gosh, i can just picture it now, me walking around like a complete and utter zombie while camden mutters under his breath unrecognizable words and phrases becoming louder and louder until he is almost yelling them. quite the act we have going on around here.
theory number two or camden’s theory includes him spastically kicking me in the foot while we were sleeping “ninja!”. this seems highly unlikely to me however. on the contrary to camden, i am an extremely light sleeper and could almost guarantee a kick to the ankle of that magnitude would surely have woken me up. further more, no bruise or any sort of mark was found nor was visible where the kick would have taken place, but then again you never know.
my third and final theory and probably the most likely one is that i simply just had my ankle kinked some strange way for most of the night. simple and boring but somewhat likely.
the ankle continues to be in a funk and the mystery unsolved and unfortunately will most likely remain that way. we may never know how my posterior tibiotalar ligament (of course i looked that up) got this way but hopefully it will get better very soon. if not, i already have an appointment with the chiropractor for my back this week (man i’m crooked all over) and i’m hoping he might have some sort of clue to fixing it, because chiropractors can fix everything don’t you know.

about thunder storms & cookies

July 13, 2012

Miscellaneous

i don’t know what it is about thunder storms and cookies, all i know is they’re not complete without each other.
yesterday i got off work a lot earlier than usual which meant when camden got home from work around five-ish i was completely bored. the thing is when i get bored, i either get completely silly or very grumpy. luckily for all of us it was the silly kind yesterday, but let me tell you i was on one. cracking up jokes, talking in silly voices, sometimes i think camden just doesn’t know what to do with me. anyway, while i was waiting for camden to get home i could hear the soft rumbles of thunder in the distance and that got me excited, which probably had something to do with my mood.
i have a hard time telling if thunder is actually thunder where we live. the way it bounces off the mountains or some sort of mumbo jumbo, makes the rumbling sound last at least three times as long. it sounds like garbage cans rolling down a street. usually by the third rumble i have either declared wether a thunder storm is rolling in or a garbage can rolling party has broken out outside.
after listening to the distant storm all afternoon, i knew we had to make something out of it. camden, never understanding why i must make such little daily life occurrences into big productions (frankly i don’t understand myself), reluctantly agreed and off to the store we three walked for the missing ingredients we needed for my all-time favorite cookies. naturally kramer came with us, i just couldn’t bear leaving him behind on our little adventure.
after leaving, i turned around to have a look at the sky and saw the storm was actually closer than i had thought. camden asked if i wanted to turn back, because we were still closer to our house than target, but i wouldn’t have it. it wouldn’t be an adventure if there was no risk of getting caught in the storm, so no, walk we did.
since kramers are not allowed into targets, he and i sat outside and waited for camden to do the shopping. kramer is a people watcher, we are kind of alike that way. it is most entertaining watching all sorts of people walking in and out of stores. he also has this way of making every person come up to us to say “oh . . what a cute puppy!”. he is a people charmer he is. if i had a dime for every person that told me that, i would be rich i tell you. he is awfully cute though.
after camden came out of the store and we started our mini trek back home (it’s not so much a trek when you can see your house from the store), the wind started to pick up and we knew it was only minutes until the rain would start to drip down. i kept playing weather woman and making up all sorts of things about what the storm was doing. this is when that silly mood i was talking about really comes into play.
“oh those winds, they are really picking up.” “can’t you feel those winds picking up?” “i’m a storm catcher you know, or chaser, or whatever they are in that movie twister, that’s what i am.”
camden would reply: “or really . . is that so . .”
“oh yes” i said, “and those winds are really picking up”
“i know you’ve only mentioned it three or four times now” camden said, trying hard to hold back his laughter.
-i like to think we have fun sometimes.
the storm barely missed us which i was slightly bummed about, i sort of secretly wanted to have a little rain adventure.
once home we got a – crack – a – lackin’ on those cookies and the house quickly filled with the warm scent of buttery limes as the rain pitter pattered down on to our roof. camden even helped me which made it that much more fun. oh, and of course kramer helped to, he is the official powdered sugar licker upper after all.
p.s. i have included the cookie recipe below on the condition you will all promise to make them
here is that cookie recipe i promised, oh and i forgot to mention above, this recipe is a martha stewart original, because what can’t she do? oh and did i mention this recipe is super easy? well this recipe is super easy . . you will love it!

snuggling

July 11, 2012

Miscellaneous

we are all about snuggling over here especially this little kramer guy.
he gets even more so when we have been gone a bit too long for his liking.
he really loves to snuggle with camden in the morning since i leave to go to work
much earlier than he, camden is usually the one he wakes up with and
what is better than morning snuggles?
i’m a cozy person myself. camden thinks i’m crazy because even in the summer
you’ll always find me wrapped up in some sort of blanket.
especially at night. i just love being cozy i guess.
these are just a few of the pictures i have snapped
of snuggles going on around here lately.
p.s. i have had this song stuck in my head all day so i thought i would share it with you.
