afternoon drinks in the summertime

afternoon
every year when the air begins to warm, it just so happens that i find myself falling in love with another summertime drink, which almost always contains a good chunk of citrus fruit, usually meaning a lime. as fate would have it, i have indeed found this years midsummer crush, only just finally coming together within the last few weeks limes and all. this one is super simple, a little sweet, and as always ice cold for those hot summer days.

afternoon 3

for my current favorite summertime drink all you will need is:

1 lime
fresh mint
ginger ale
iced cubes
your favorite glass
a spoon for stirring
a sharp knife
& a hot day
fill a glass full of iced cubes. squeeze the juice from one half lime over the ice and then place into the cup. set the other lime half aside for later. drop 1-2 mint leaves into the glass and stir together, then add the ginger ale, about one cup. garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!

who am i kidding … i say fabulous all the time, however, camden on the other hand rarely does. yet this is what he said when he saw this chair … “wow, that chair is fabulous”. i already agreed. we found it at my new favorite vintage store, mod a-go-go. this place is packed full of beautiful, secondhand, mid-century modern furniture, priced low, and everything is fabulous. it is one of those places that could get to be a real problem for me … but a good kind of problem if you catch my drift …  p.s. thank you to bleubird vintage for giving me this idea for where to place my plant and birds!

camden has been wanting us to do one hike in particular all summer so it was no surprise to me when he last week started “casually” mentioning the dog lake hike as a must do asap. both days he wanted to go were iffy as far as rain but last tuesday gave in i did as the three of us trekked up the mountain for a six mile round trip hike (p.s. anything over two miles seems like an extremely long hike in my opinion). because of all the rain we had just had for the few days prior and the current overcast sky, it actually got cold as we climbed in elevation and i needed a jacket for the very first time this summer. it took us all about two hours to get to the top and i was once again shocked and in awe of how much beauty surrounds us right outside our door and how lucky i am to live so close to so much comeliness and peace. on the way back down it started to get dark and rainy and we had to pull out our flashlights to see the trail in front of us. however, instead of turning sour about the whole thing, we made it into a little adventure and arrived safe and happy down the mountain a few hours later. i’m grateful for camden dragging me on this hike with him … sometimes i forget how nice it is to get away, put all our silly cares behind us, and have a mini family adventure.

& when you run out of drawers in the kitchen …

one of the many things that inspired me while in england was how a lot of the old houses and castles displayed and stored their cooking/baking tools and utensils. walls and walls of old fashioned rolling pins, beaters, measuring spoons … etc. scattered beautifully onto crisp white walls … it pictured perfectly the rusticity, beauty, and use of each tool while being displayed in a modern and simple way that gave the room such and elegant yet balanced feel.

as our kitchen drawers have started to become more and more full, i’ve remembered back to those rooms in england, deciding to interpret my own wall of baking gadgets and supplies. each one is held up only by one or two nails … it was so simple to install and gives our kitchen its own unique look. i’m absolutely smitten by it.
